Ok, so it looks like some of you have set your goal to do a triathlon. Great job, that’s the first step. But how do you reach it? Training, right? But “how much training” is usually the first question.
To help determine your training program, you need to think of 2 things. What the distance of your goal (race) is and how you want to accomplish your goal (race). Is your goal to just finish the triathlon? Be an age group winner? Finish in the top 10 of your gender? Or be in the top 3? Once you answer those questions, it helps you to define your training program.
When I decided to do my first triathlon, waaaaaaay back in 1987, I was a beginner swimmer, experienced cyclist and competitive runner. I set my goal to just finish. It was a sprint distance, 500 meter pool swim, 20k bike, and 5k run. I reached my goal and finished, even with dropping my water bottle on the bike (having no water in 30c heat for the entire ride), and dropping my chain on the course! Because my goal was to finish a Sprint distance triathlon, that helped determined my training program.
Next, think about what your strongest and weakest event is in the 3 triathlon disciplines…that will lead you to your individual training, but that’s for next time!
My Magic Hundred Update
07.10.08I got started on my latest magic hundred a few weeks ago today is day 16 so how have i been getting on.
Well some days good, some days not so good. BUT the important part is I am ticking off some of the smaller goals and making steps forward with the larger ones too. Here are a few examples.
A couple of the goals related to the Elimination Diet that you will have seen some posts about this last week or so, so I am already 15 days through zero coffee for 30 days (one goal), zero bread for 30 days (two goals) and zero alcohol for 30 days (three goals).
Another goal was to do my shooting training (archery) 50 times in the next 100 days, I have so far shot 6 times. I need to up the regularity of this a little so I have scheduled specific slots in my weekly calendar to get this in.
I also have a goal to attract 100,000 people to a Facebook group related to my training beliefs. Yesterday I created a group called “Lets Ban Crunches From Exercise Programs” which has already got 18 members. If you want to join the group go here
I am also trying to sell my Toyota Celica GT4 (if you are an enthusiast you’ll understand :o), it has been a great car to own but I really want to move on to something different now. Drop me an email if you are interested.
Another goal that has not gone anywhere yet is the Find a Mountain bike race to compete in early next year. I think it is one that I’ll hit next :o)
The secret to achieving the 100 goals is really in the daily power questions and finding three of the goals that you are going to pursue that day. It keeps me focussed on doing activities that take me forward, not just “fire-fighting” all day.
If you want to start your Magic Hundred I would suggest you do so really soon, I got an email from Dax earlier telling me he is going to raise the price of this program really soon. So get in now to buy it at the lower rate.
My Magic Hundred
23.09.0899 days left of 2008. I have spent most of the last 24 hours stuck on a transatlantic flight after fulfilling one of my previous Magic Hundred goals to attend a major Fitness professional Seminar in the US to meet with many of my peers in the fitness profession.
Whilst on the flight, I dug out my notepad and started brainstorming some of the various goals I have in mind for my Next Magic Hundred. Here is a sample:
- Be a speaker at the next major fitness professional seminar I attend.
- Train 80 times in the next 100 days
- Shoot (archery) 50 times in the next 100 days
- Set my Archery Schedule for 2009, including one major international event to focus on.
- Get 5 skiing lessons in before christmas
- Cut bread, alcohol and coffee from my diet for the next 30 days… see Elimination Diet.
You see the goals are a mix of big goals and little goals, some easy and some require a little more work. With My Magic Hundred, you can easily set in motion some substantial changes in your life with lots of small goals as well as the monster ones that make you get all shaking with excitement about.

Kick Start Your Magic Hundred
20.09.08With many of you taking up the opportunity to get Dax’s Magic Hundred program this last week, for the remaining 100 days of 2008, I thought I’d let you know about some of the things that I am intending on doing, starting this Monday.
I am going to start this Monday with the Elimination Diet, also a Dax creation, but a nutritional program that is NOT a fat loss diet (although it does commonly give this result). The intention is to get cleansed of all the lovely toxins that I have consumed, especially over this last week being stuck in the US. Dax also has an Cookbook which helps you get more from the Elimination Diet, which I’ll be reviewing in a few weeks time.
I also have a number of business goals that I have on my goal cards in my wallet that need an injection of pace, so these are being added to the list of 100 goals for the next 100 days including bring on my team of new coaches which are ready for new clients this autumn. If now is your time to start learning about the GetFit Fundamentals and how it can make changes to your body for the rest of your life then get across to www.getfit.lu/consultation.html to arrange a FREE consultation with us.
Finally one of the other things I really want to achieve is getting all my current clients to have achieved their own health and fitness goals in time for Christmas, ie, BEFORE the January mayhem in the gym! Hey guys watch out I’m gonna put a rocket under you the next few weeks.
Tell me what things you are doing by adding a comment to this post, the most inspirational from Luxembourg will get a free place on one of our ForestFit groups.
If you’ve not got the Magic Hundred program go get it right away from Dax’s Magic Hundred Site
I seem to get asked at least once a week which books I would recommend for training, fat loss, nutrition, goal setting etc etc…
I do read lots of this stuff, in fact I tend to be reading non stop… strange I never used to be like that…
Anyway, I have created a page on the GetFit.lu website with all my recommended books and where you can get them from. I have added Amazon links or retailer links so you can get all these products shipped to your door in double quick time.
Summer holidays are a great time to catch up with some interesting reading, pick one or two that you can pack in your suitcase…

PS. You’ll see some other links to the left hand side of this page, which will take you to some of our most trusted resources and partners, make sure you try these too!
1. Write down your goal. Get a sticky note, write down what dress/jean size you WILL fit in by the end of June. Stick it on the side of your computer monitor, fridge door etc etc.
2. Schedule your workouts for the next 3 weeks: Write them into your scheduler now, they cannot be moved, skipped, deleted, it is like missing an appointment with the hair dresser, you wanna look good yes?
3. Drink more plain water, especially now the weather has turned for the better. Everything from better skin condition, to better elimination of waste. It will also help absorb and utilise those nutrients you are eating much better.
4. Don’t Jog - Run, Don’t free wheel - Push the pedals hard, don’t do breast-stroke - do freestyle/front crawl! Intervals are the best cardio method in your arsenal to a better body.
5. Eat more often: Yep, eat every 2-3 hours of the day, NEVER miss a meal, have snacks between meals. Keep your metabolism on full burn by eating regularly, never famine and feast!
Try it.
If you are in Luxembourg, we can provide you with workouts three times a week with “ForestFit June” starting June 10th
