ForestFit In Fabulous February
23.01.09I will not lie to you ForestFit January has been a bit chilly, but I have been really impressed with everyone in the groups. They have all committed to wrapping up warm, with some warm hats and gloves and got warm within a few minutes of activity.
The underlying principles of the sessions has been fun, moving and getting a great fat burning workout done in 45 minutes. Despite the cold it has been just great!
And so Fabulous February is almost upon us, and we’ll be continuing the great workouts and turbo-charging your fat loss efforts. Not only are we going to run the usual 7am and 9.30am groups we are also trying for a 10:30 (lite) group and a lunchtime session at 13:15
The 7 and 9.30 groups are filling fast so be quick if you want a place. Click the link below to register right now.

PS. Once all the places are gone you will have to wait until March before you can join again, it really looks like two of the groups will be full by the end of next week.
Here is the web page again:
My wife and I are going away to do some snowboarding at the end of February. We have been going to the indoor SnowHall in France (about 20 minutes drive from our house) every week at least once to get some practice in. However we knew that we needed to get some practice on some “real” snow, so last weekend we headed off to La Bresse to hit some white stuff.

To say it surprised me is an understatement!
Where I have been getting on just fine on the artificially made snow indoors, I discovered that the real snow is oh so different. But within just a few hours of doing something a little different we started to see some results…
When you have been trying the “same old thing” for so long without any results why is it you expect a different result this time around? January gym memberships and our eagerness to get back in shape is almost a cliche it seems in 2009.
We are joining the same classes.
Jumping on the same treadmill
Peddling for hours on end on the exercise bike.
Going for a jog for an hour around the park
Doing a bunch of crunches
Swinging our pink handle weights.
But isn’t all this what you tried last year?
Isn’t this what you tried for a couple of weeks and then called it quits cos you didn’t see the results?
Like my experience on the real snow, We need to try something a little different to see a different or better result.
So instead of joining the same old classes, try something new, maybe a martial arts class, go join an athletics club and train with them for example.
Instead of going for a jog, try some high intensity hill sprints.
Instead of doing crunches, learn how to do some squats, lunges, deadlift exercises (look up on Youtube for videos of how to)
Put down those pink weights and do something a little different, and maybe, just maybe the results will be drastically different.
Tim
PS. ForestFit February start on the 10th for a completely different type of training.
ForestFit in January
11.12.08The perfect antidote to a holiday season of excess! ForestFit is back again!
I have now opened registrations for ForestFit January, starting from January 6th.
There is only a limited number of places for both the 7am and 9.30am groups. Make sure you register early to avoid disappointment, I have already reserved 5 places for the 7am group before I even send this post out.
Go to http://www.forestfit.com to register right now.
You wouldn’t believe the number of people I have spoken to over the last few months about ForestFit, who claim they are NOT fit enough to take part in ForestFit!
They have been afraid to come and try and get left behind.
If this is you, then what we have coming up on the 13th December at 08:30 may fit with you perfectly.
We are going to hold an open day on that Saturday morning for anyone to come and try, in our usual location of Bambesch.
Our intention is to have a “Normal” group for you guys and a tougher group for those that have been before and are wanting a bit of a challenge in the run up to Christmas.
We are limiting the group to a total of 30 people! and already 14 places have been taken. If you want to join us then send me an email to tim@getfit.lu with the title “SnowFit is Really Cool”
Thanks
Tim
PS. A small group of dedicated ForestFit’ers are in action this weekend at the Bambesch 5km run… come and cheer us on from 11am on Sunday morning.
SnowFit in the Forest
22.11.08This morning we had 12 dedicated individuals join us for ForestFit… like many parts of Luxembourg we had a nice sprinkling of snow, and Bambesch was especially beautiful as you can see from these pictures (thanks Maruska :o)

Now if your thinking “What a bunch of nutters, you’d never catch me out there in that cold!” Then what I am about to tell you will not interest you in the slightest!
The current ForestFit finishes on December 6th, but probably against my better judgement I am offering to be out in the Forest from 08:30 on Saturday 13th December, for anyone who wants join me for an extra special ForestFit.
This ForestFit is completely open for anyone to join me, no fee, no commitment!
A couple of things though, you must email me at tim@getfit.lu with the subject “SnowFit looks really cool… brrr!” to tell me you are coming.
The other thing is, if you say you are coming, YOU MUST COME, no excuses, no if’s or but’s I want to see you there.
I haven’t asked Jess yet, but hopefully she will be out with us as well :o) (how about it Jess ;o)
Be quick though with your email, i am going to limit the number of places to 30, and have two groups of different levels going out and enjoying the Forest.
So drop me that email right away, and I’ll add you to the list.
Tim
One of the biggest aspects of ForestFit during this last 6 months has been the community that has built up around the training. Friendships have been made, networking has taken place and new relationships forged. In fact this whole aspect of the training has taken Jess and I by surprise.
We have seen many of our members take on a support role for others when time things have got tough, some have taken on roles as strong motivators and leaders, and the bonding between people has been quiet heartwarming.
Today, we have a number of ForestFit members taking on a challenge many thought would have been impossible just a few short months ago. Tonight’s FakelLaf 5km run starting from the Belle Etoile is the culmination of some solid training habits many of these guys and girls have developed. They’ll be running for their own personal goals, sense of achievement and every one of them has been an inspiration to have got to this point. I am sure the community spirit will continue tonight helping and supporting each other around the course.
Next week we start the final ForestFit group for 2008 and I am sure this will continue to strengthen the community that has developed around it.
Good luck to those taking part tonight, I’ll see you there.

My kind thanks to Straun Johnston for pulling together the article. Straun has been on ForestFit for the last 2 months and has been keeping the male body count up each week, so that all the girls don’t just pick on me :o)

Get ready for the long, cold Winter!
29.10.08So the time has come and Winter is more or less here and with Winter time comes the Darker Days and the colds and flues ( which i just have experienced) start appearing together with tiredness and sometimes depressions. Everything seems harder especially getting up in the morning and the sofa attracts you more and more instead of leaving the warm and nice homes to get out and about. With the lack of energy comes the lack of trying to eat healthier and all this escalates into a bad circle. But have no fear, there are ways to boost you Immune system and ways to feel better so stand up tall and see what You can do to feel better this Winter?
Nutrition:
We have all heard it by now, You are what you Eat! And Yes it is still a Fact! So try to think before you put that piece of chocolate in your mouth because you are hungry and that’s the first thing you saw. Always think about what You are eating and what Good that will do to You and your body?
Make sure you eat clean carbs, protein and good fats. Eat lot’s of fruit and vegetables which are bombed with vitamines and minerals and antioxidants which will boost your Immune system. Try to eat warm food now when it gets colder because that will heat you up and fill you up for longer. Try porridge or an omelette in the morning instead of your sugary cereals or toasts. If you don’t eat breakfast, Now is a great time to start. Try it out and see what a difference it acctually makes to your whole day!
As always Avoid Sugar(which includes white bread, pasta and bisquits), Alcohol and processed foods. They are still No good and don’t have any nutrients. Alcohol can also make you feel depressed!
Exercise:
This is equally Important especially now when Winter is here. It’s easy to stop doing exercise at this time of year and us working in Gym can see a big difference in clientel at winter time. It’s just plain and simple Hard to get out when it’s cold and miserable out there but try not to stop. As i just said Exercise is very Important. When we do exercise we release the hormone Endorfines and that is the hormone that makes us feel Happy and it is the same hormone we release when we stress, have sex or are totally in love. And you know how happy you are then , right:)
We get stronger both mentally and physically and we also Boost the Immune system with regular Exercise. So if you are used to doing exercise, do continue, don’t give up!
If you are new to exercise start off nice and easy so you don’t over do it and get fed up or injured. Remember, Any exercise is better than No exercise.
An other thing that makes us livlier and happier is getting out doors. Wrap up real warm and go out for walks or gather some friends and play touch rugby or some other games or why not set up a little tournament of some kind and Have fun Out doors. You’ll get some fun, some fresh air and the Sun (if it’s out) will give You the all Important Vitamin D which makes your skeleton stronger and again boosts your Immune System. D-Vitamines are also great for the skin, hair and against Depression.
So, no more excuses about Winter. If you take good care of yourself this might be the best Winter Ever:) Eat good, Get outside and Do some Exercise. Why not Try something totally new this winter, get a friend to come along becuase that way You will never have an excuse not to do it.
Be Well and Happy Halloween:)
Jess
